Over 3M Kenyans file KRA returns ahead of deadline

More Kenyans have filled their annual tax returns this year as compared to the previous years.

A spot check by Citizen Digital revealed low activities at Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) support centers compared to same time last year.

Close to 4 million Kenyans are registered on the iTax platform with KRA now saying that only a quarter of this number have not filled their returns.

The improved filing rate exemplified by low turnouts this year, a clear contrast from 2018 when days to the June 30th deadline, Kenyans thronged the centres to beat the date.

“I am shocked that the line is not as long as I anticipated , this year there are very few people compared to previous years,” said Jonah Koech – Taxpayer.

“I came in a few minutes ago and am confident I will be finished soon,” he added.

In Mombasa the situation was the same with KRA attributing the trend to increased mobile and online filing of returns by many tax payers.
