Pain for motorists as petrol, diesel prices rise

Motorists will feel the pinch of greater petroleum prices as the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) moves to impact increments to maximum pump prices across the board by an average Ksh.2.72.

In this month’s review, petrol and diesel prices are set to rise by Ksh.2.54 and Ksh.2.65 per litre respectively with kerosene users, who are yet to see any notable relief in recent months, will face a Ksh.2.98 jump in prices.

EPRA has attributed the latest rise in pump prices to the increased cost of fuel imports which rose by an average 1.9 percent across the month of October.

Consequently, a litre of petrol in Nairobi will from Friday cost you Ksh.110.59 per litre while diesel costs will sit Ksh.104.61 to the litre.

Kerosene will meanwhile retail at a new price of Ksh.104.06 per litre.

The rise in petroleum costs, which arise on the back of the appreciation of the shilling’s valuation, are expected to push up inflation during the month to a likely three-month high pilling new pressure on consumer spending.

The consumer price index (CPI) tagged rate, which rose to a two-month high 4.95 percent, last month from a record low 3.83 percent in September is expected to find further push from increment in food costs.
