Petrol price down as Diesel, Kerosene go up

Super Petrol prices have gone down by Ksh 9.36 per litre after being on the rise for a couple of months.

The prices, as announced by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), will, however, see the price of diesel go up by Ksh 2.44 per litre while Kerosene goes up by Ksh 3.49 per litre.

According to the review, the new prices – which take effect from October 15^th to November 14^th, 2015, Super Petrol will retail at Ksh 93.29 in Nairobi, while diesel will retail at Ksh 82.43 per litre in the city and its environs.

Kerosene will now trade at Ksh 56.04 per litre in Nairobi.

The prices will take effect across the country with major towns as follows:

Retail pump prices for Mombasa will be; Super Petrol at Ksh 89.98, Diesel at Ksh 79.15 and Kerosene at Ksh 53.32.

Retail pump prices for Kisumu will be; Super Petrol at Ksh 95.23, Diesel at Ksh 84.56 and Kerosene at Ksh 57.91.

Retail Pump Prices for Eldoret will be; Super Petrol at Ksh 95.17, Diesel at Ksh 84.49 and Kerosene at Ksh 57.91.

Retail Pump Prices for Nakuru will be; Super Petrol at Ksh 92.02, Diesel at Ksh 83.35 and Kerosene at Ksh 56.88.

According to ERC Director General Joseph Ng’ang’a, the new prices are as a consequence of the average landed cost of imported Super Petrol decreasing by 18.86% from 695.68 dollars per ton in August 2015 to 564.47 dollars per ton in September 2015.

On the other hand, the average landed cost of imported Diesel during the period increased by 5.78% from 492.92 dollars per ton to 521.43 dollars per ton.

Additionally, the average landed cost of imported Kerosene during the same period increased by 6.43% from 474.35 dollars per ton to 504.86 dollars per ton.

ERC has warned oil traders against selling fuel beyond the recommended prices saying that any dealer found inflating the prices risks having their licenses withdrawn and paying a hefty fine.
