Posta targets 30m M-Post users

The Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK) intends to register 30 million mobile users in the country in to its newly launched mobile based service M Post.

The platform allows customers to use their mobile numbers as their post office box address receiving notifications when mail is sent to them.

Speaking in Mombasa, acting Postmaster General Dan Kagwe said the technology will benefit business men as well as improve service delivery to customers.

“We can move from 650,000 to 30 million people being served by the post,” Mr Kagwe said.

Launched in June, M-Post is built to enhance communication, offer convenience, affordability, exclusivity, accessibility and safety of the consumer’s letters from the comfort of their mobile phone.

Posta has so far registered over 600,000 customers on the service who pay an annual fee of Sh300 compared to the Sh2,320 paid for physical postal boxes

Mr Kagwe said with the flexibility offered by the service, users can change their location and still receive letters and packages sent to them across the country.

“The virtual post will allow you to go on holiday or even when you move your location you can always change your address and the letter or parcel will follow you,” he said.

Posta is looking to innovation to create new revenue streams.
