Rai Paper eyes packaging industry

Rai Paper has turned its focus to producing packaging paper as it awaits full operationalization of the paper milling plant.

This as the paper miller disputed claims of being out of operation two months after being re commissioned by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Rai Paper Factory Manager Naga Shankar said with the plant yet to get back to full capacity, the miller will in the short run produce packaging paper, which is in high demand across the region.

“Right now we are producing brown paper about 15 to 20 tons per day, which is used in the packing industry and making boxes,” Shankar said.

The paper mill is currently recycling waste paper and materials to produce the packaging paper.

The Rai Group bought the mill last year for Sh900 million and has been engaged in restarting the mill that had remained out of operation for close to a decade.
