Revenue authority registers 1.3M taxpayers

In a statement to newsrooms, KRA Commissioner General John Njiraini said the authority is using data from iTax to design and implement effective compliance strategies.
The Commissioner General is urging Kenyans to commence filing their Individual Income tax return Wednesday so as to beat the June 30th deadline.
Njiraini further added that for taxpayers experiencing challenges in accessing online services in filing their returns, KRA will accept manual returns.
“The authority is leveraging on the iTax system to improve client service and promote voluntary compliance,” said Njiraini.
KRA has been conducting hands on trainings and sensitization programmes through tax education programmes that are being run countrywide to support taxpayers register on iTax.
The taxman has also partnered with appointed licensed and trained intermediary agents who assist taxpayers register and file their returns through the iTax system.
KRA has set up six iTax Support Centres and has presence in 16 Huduma Centres which also handleiTax related queries.
The iTax System was rolled out in October 2013 in an effort to increase efficiency and ensure better compliance with tax laws.
