Safaricom tops mobile money transactions with over Ksh.1trillion

Mobile money transactions in Kenya between September and December last year peaked to Ksh.2.1trillion.

The Safaricom M-Pesa platform accounted for the bulk of the transaction with Ksh.1.35trillion value in mobile commerce and Ksh.606 billion in person to person transfers.

Airtel Money transacted Ksh.1.1billion between person to person while Equitel Money transferred Ksh.122 million between subscribers in the period.

This translating to an estimated Ksh.16million transacted every minute in the period.

This is according to a report by the Communications Authority of Kenya.

Out of these, Ksh.1.8trillion was registered on mobile commerce while person to person transfer was recorded at Ksh.731.9billion.
