Samsung to train 3000 youths

Samsung Electronics has committed to train at least 3,000 skilled electronics engineers in the EAC in the next five years.

Samsung Electronics East and Central Africa Vice President Robert Ngeru said that the trainees would receive hands-on training for free with the latest Samsung equipment.

“The top performing students will get a chance to intern at Samsung Electronics and thereafter work as independent service technicians with Samsung retail channels in their respective countries,” Ngeru said during the Samsung Electronics Engineering Academy in Nairobi over the weekend.

So far 200 students have graduated from the training centre and are part of Samsung’s commitment to bridge the technical skills gap in the EAC.

According to Ngeru, the region is facing a critical shortage of technical and engineering skills.

“The region’s youth are also falling behind in physical sciences and engineering courses,” he added.

Samsung Electronics operates similar academies in South Africa, Nigeria and Ethiopia as part of its broader goal of developing 10,000 skilled electronics engineers across Africa.
