Sarova picks Jimi Kariuki as Group MD

The Sarova Group of hotels has picked Jimi Kariuki as its new Managing Director.

This follows the death of long serving Group MD Jaideep S. (JS) Vohra last year following a road accident.

Prior to his appointment Mr Kariuki had served as the groups sales and marketing director.

He is also currently the chairman of the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB).

Mr Kariuki said he is keen on growing the hotel group’s presence and strengthening its guest experience.

“This is a very exciting challenge for me and I look forward to working closely with the board of directors and with our great team to continue with the delivery of our vision and of our promise to our customers”, Mr Kariuki said.

The Sarova Group consists of hotels and loges such as the Stanley, Panafric, Whitesands Beach resort and the Sarova Mara Camp.

Sarova board chairman John Ngata said Mr Kariuki was a natural selection to head the group to ensure there was stability as the group strategizes to lure more guests.

“Today we employ over 1,400 staff in our group. As we enter our 44th year in the hospitality industry in Kenya this year, this appointment ensures continuity and the stability of the business, following the tragic and untimely passing of Mr. Vohra,” Mr Ngata said.

Mr Ngata co owns the Sarova group with the family of the late businessman G S Vohra.
