Silverstone Air incidents land on U.K. travel advisory

The United Kingdom has urged citizens to be cautious when booking local flights following the two Silverstone Air Service incidents.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) stated that travelers should note that there is an ongoing audit inspection of the local airline.

“If you plan to charter a private aircraft, check with the company’s Safety Pilot about the condition of the aircraft and runways to be used. If the company has no Safety Pilot, find another company that does,” FCO said.

The British office further urged its citizens to be vigilant when transiting through Wilson Airport.

According to the FCO, there are some concerns about the lack of security arrangements at the airport that serves domestic flights.

On October 28, Silverstone Air plane was forced to make an emergency landing at Eldoret International Airport after a tyre fell off.

The airline said the plane, which had four passengers on board, was heading to Nairobi from Lodwar. No one was injured in the incident.

A month earlier, a plane from the same airline crashed at the Wilson Airport shortly after take-off.

The plane that was leaving Nairobi for Lamu is said to have skidded off the runway

Passengers and crew were disembarked as authorities assessed the situation.

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) said investigations into the incidents are underway.

“The audit is being performed in order to determine the level of compliance with the current Civil Aviation regulations and their own company approved manuals and procedures,” said KCAA Director General Capt. Gilbert Kibe.
