Stanchart CEO elected KBA chairman

Standard Chartered Bank Chief Executive Lamin Manjang has been elected as the next chairman of the Kenya Bankers Association. He takes over from KCB Group Chief Executive Joshua Oigara who served two terms since 2014.

Mr Manjang comes in at a time there’s increased scrutiny on the banking sector. There have been cases of financial mismanagement and skewed accounting practices which the Central Bank has been keen to eradicate from the sector.

KBA recently signed a charter that encapsulates the private sector Code of Ethics and introduces a self-regulatory framework and standards for member banks.

Mr Manjang will serve for the stipulated 12 month term while Barclays Bank Chief Executive Jeremy Awori will continue to serve as the vice chairman.
