Three suspects arrested in Tana River over hiked fuel prices
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested three suspects in Tana River County following an impromptu raid.
According to a statement from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) the suspects were arrested and charged for selling petroleum products above the maximum retail pump prices in Tana River.
“Lukeman Omar Mohammed (Propreitor Leila Petrol Station), Ibrahim Hussein Hassan (Manager, Heller Petrol Station) and Abdallah Mohammed Bajoh (Manager,A.A Bayusuf & Sons Petrol Station) will be arraigned in court on Monday,” the statement reads.
This comes days after motorists in several parts of the country lamented over high fuel prices which resulted in hiked transport fares by public service vehicle (PSV) operators.
The ERC has appealed to members of the public to be vigilant and report any cases of suspected petroleum overpricing or malpractice including fuel adulteration to [email protected] or hotline numbers 0708 444 000 or 0709 336 000.
The commission has also advised members of the public to use the commission’s SMS enquiry system to retrieve information about the latest maximum petrol retail prices by sending a text message “price (space) name of major town” to 0707667623.
