Tourism Board Calls for Lifting of Travel Advisories

The association’s Chief Executive Officer Mike Macharia says the government should instead focus on strengthening the tourism promotion mandate of the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) with a view to raising the number of tourists visiting Kenya.

Speaking at Diani in Kwale County, KTB’s head of finance Jonah Orumoi called on countries that have issued travel advisories against Kenya to lift them, saying the advisories are hurting Kenya’s tourism industry.

This comes just two weeks after President Uhuru Kenyatta criticized the issuance of these advisories terming it as double standards on the part of the UK, adding that terrorism is a global threat that is not unique to Kenya.

Speaking at the official opening of this year’s Kenya Diaspora Easter Investment Conference held at the Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club, Kenyatta warmly welcomed the much awaited July visit by us President Barack Obama.

Kenyatta further refuted claims that his government has not been sharing crucial security related information with relevant foreign agencies.
