Tullow Oil suspends early oil pilot scheme in Turkana

Heavy rains have cast doubt on the expected second crude oil export by Kenya after Tullow Oil suspended trucking.

A statement released on Wednesday raised alarm over the severe damage to roads caused by adverse weather towards the end of 2019.

“Trucking remains on hold until all roads are repaired to a safe standard. Work continues with Joint Venture Partners and the Government of Kenya to progress the development project,” the statement reads.

Kenya had sought to make its second crude oil export by the end of March as tests continue to the commercial viability of the Turkana oil deposits.

In September 2019, Kenya earned an estimated Ksh. 1.2 billion having sold 240,000 barrels of oil to the United Kingdom based ChemChina Limited.
