Two Tuskys directors charged with Sh1.6 billion theft

Two Tuskys directors were today (Wednesday) arraigned in court and charged with stealing over Sh1.6 billion from the supermarket chain.

Stephene Mukuha Kamau and George Gachwe Kamau were released on a cash bail of Sh1 million shillings each after they pleaded not guilty to five counts of theft by directors contrary to section 282 of the Penal Code.

According to the charge sheet, It is alleged that on diverse dates between 2002 and 2012 at Tuskys Headquarters along Mombasa Road within Nairobi County, jointly with others not before court facing four similar counts, being directors of Tuskys the two stole Sh400 million from the supermarket.

The case will be mentioned on the 18thof this month.

The company has been rocked by a family feud that threatens to tear down the multi-billion shillings business.

The chain boasts of 37 outlets run under the Tuskys brand across the country and in Uganda.

But it is the vicious battle for control among the family members who co-own the empire that now threatens to jolt this run of success that their late father envisioned.
