You will now be able to Undo Send emails on Gmail

Did you know that you could “Undo Send” an email on Gmail? Google has formally announced this feature which enables you to retrieve an email once you have clicked “send”.  The “Undo Send” option has been made an official feature of Gmail on the web and also on the recently launched inbox app for mobile devices.

This feature has been in Gmail for six years! It was however in beta version in one of the longest experimental periods of any product feature. You therefore weren’t aware of its existence as it was technically an experiment which stayed quietly in the obscure labs section of Gmail.

Undo send basically gives you a set period of time after dispatching an email to recall your email. For 5 to 30 seconds after you have clicked send, you will have an option to retrieve  your email which you can go ahead and edit or delete altogether. The period depends on the time you have indicated in the settings.

To use this feature, you have to manually switch it on. Click on the settings (gear) icon on the top left of your inbox. You will see Undo Send in the general tab of your settings. You will need to tick the little box next to “Enable Undo Send”.

Therefore with this life saving feature, you will now be able to retrieve that email you wish you hadn’t sent. You can now “Undo Send” that email you meant for your colleague but accidentally sent to the Managing Director!
