Ali Kiba slams Tanzanian media for ignoring him

Top Bongo singer, Ali Kiba, on Tuesday took a jab at Tanzanian media for giving him a total blackout at an event where he was featured as a Peace Ambassador.

The Peace One Day campaign, which took place at Amahoro in Rwanda, attracted performances from Africa’s renowned artistes such South Africa’s Mafikizolo, Nigeria’s Ice Prince among other top acts.

Despite the fact that one of their own was representing them at the star studded function, it seems no Tanzanian media bothered to cover the fete.

The media blackout made Ali Kiba furious prompting him to take to his official social media pages to vent his anger.

“I direct this message to media stations which did not show support for the Peace One Day campaign. Next time, please provide coverage on behalf of Tanzania, if you wouldn’t want to do so for Ali Kiba or any other personality who will be representing Tanzania,” posted Kiba.

“I am only human and I know in one way or another I could have crossed your lines consciously or subconsciously,” he added.

Citing peace in Tanzania as the main reason for the media houses’ decision not to cover the event, Ali Kiba urged members of the country’s fourth estate to rethink their stand.

“It should not matter whether Tanzania is experiencing peace or political and social turmoil: we should show support at all times. Currently we are at a very critical moment with the forthcoming elections. God should guide us through the exercise,” the Mwana singer further told.

Ali Kiba expressed his worries saying that Tanzanian media painted bad image of the country.

The singer concluded: “It’s not good at all! I have many fans across the world who were not happy with the blackout Tanzanian media gave the event and me at the Peace One Day campaign. It has really hurt me!”

This is the first time the award-winning star has put his country’s media under the spotlight for ‘ignoring’ him at a very critical event.

Tanzanian media however could possibly defend itself from the singer’s jabs by arguing they are covering the ongoing election campaigns.

The country on October 25 will be electing her new president.
