Calls for prayers increase as “Gold-digger” singer Jackie Chandiru’s health worsens

Popular Ugandan singer Jackie Chandiru’s health is increasingly deteriorating at CORSU Hospital in Kisubi where she was admitted for rehabilitation on Wednesday, reports Uganda’s Howwe.biz.

The 31-year-old singer, known for the hit track Gold digger, was only recently discharged from Mulago Referral Hospital in Kampala after undergoing extensive treatment for drug abuse related injuries, according to reports in the Ugandan media.

Howwe.biz reports: “a source at CORSU Hospital says the singer is having problems taking her drugs as prescribed and apparently, she has to be forced to take her medication.”

The singer’s family has reportedly urged members of the public to pray for their daughter as they seek help to fly Jackie to Nairobi for further treatment.

Ms Chandiru rose to fame in East Africa as an integral part of the now defunct singing trio Blu 3 group which included Lillian Mbabazi and Cindy Sanyu. The group split in 2010.

Jackie’s falling fortunes brings to light a worrying trend of youthful talented artistes in the region who are wasting away as a result of drug and substance abuse.
