Dont teach me how to raise my kids MP says after photos of sons holding guns surface online

Embakasi West Member of Parliament George Theuri has responded to the razor-sharp flak from public members who criticised him for letting his under-age children handle firearms.

The legislator last week posted on social media confounding photos and a video of his wife and their two young sons holding a handgun during a family outing. However, he later deleted the materials.

The pictures showed the two children dressed in military combat gear, smiling while holding and pointing a pistol.

Their mother on the other hand wore a knee-length black dress and high heel shoes; taking aim and shooting at a target with the help of a supposed trainer.

A scene from the video showed the lawmaker’s younger son running for cover as his mother shot at a target. She seemingly was in a firearm safety and skill training.

The visibly terrified young one blocked his ears from the ear-piercing sound of the fired gun.

Quotas of the public consequently condemned the parliamentarian for exposing under-age children to firearms.

The refractory MP on Friday (November 20) took to his official Facebook page to respond to his critics.

He wrote: “Nobody has a right to teach me and my dear lovely wife Cynthia Gitonga on how we shall bring up our boys.”

Despite admitting he could have made a mistake, the flamboyant Embakasi West representative says he is raising his children up in his unique fashion.

“Yes I may make some mistakes but just as my dad raised me up in his own ways and how best he thought, then so do I want to raise up my family,” he told, before concluding: “my family, my space, my style, my swag.”

Online users nevertheless took to his timeline to marshal responses against his action; terming it wrong in all possible perspectives.

One agitated Rosie Mungai commented on his post: “Mheshimiwa you were wrong…period… Now other children will also want to own guns…where do you think they will get them from? People are lying to you on your face that it’s ok? You need to apologise publicly to all parents.”

John Paul Mwangi wrote: “Nonetheless mheshimiwa, wise men are never quick to just brush off external views, especially in such widespread volumes of opinion as we have seen… They take time to consider and think critically of what is being said and why it is being said, even if it’s coming from adversaries.”
