Ever listened to Dick Wathikas song? Here it is

The late Dick Wathika, a one-time Member of Parliament for Makadara Constituency, recorded the song Wira Ni Wira (loosely translated as; a job is a job).

Wathika passed away on December 19th after a short illness.

He was a man of many talents; he sang a song and even released a video for it.

In the catchy song, he uses the name JD Wa Shiku.

Wathika’s death was a blow to many who knew him including Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko and Kiambu Governor William Kabogo.

Wathika was first elected as Nairobi Mayor in 2004, and clinched the seat again in 2006.

In the 2007 General Elections, he vied for the Makadara seat under the Party of National Unity ticket.

Wathika was declared winner, but ex-MP Reuben Ndolo challenged his victory in court citing numerous electoral irregularities.

In 2010, Justice Kalpana Rawal quashed Wathika’s win, saying that he was not validly in office.

The Makadara seat was declared vacant and fresh elections were conducted in September 2010.

Though Wathika contested again in the by-elections, Mike Sonko won the seat on a NARC-Kenya ticket. Wathika came third, a few votes behind Reuben Ndolo, who came second.
