Fundamentals singer Ken wa Maria involved in grisly road accident

Popular musician from the Kamba community, Ken wa Maria, survived a grisly road accident on Saturday night along Thika Superhighway.

The Fundamentals singer was heading to Ruiru town for a show when the accident took place.

He sustained back injuries and was rushed to St. Francis Hospital in Kasarani for emergency treatment.

Ken wa Maria says the driver of a Toyota Premio car rammed into his Toyota Rav 4 from the rear, making him lose control of his car. He careened off the road and hit a stationary lorry that was parked by the road side.

“I was going for a show in Ruiru when the incident happened. A driver rammed into the rear of my car at the junction of the Thika Road Mall, forcing me to veer off the road and hit a stationary lorry that was parked by the road side. I urge motorists to be keener on the roads,” Ken wa Maria told Citizen Digital.

Witnesses say the family of the Toyota Premio driver came and took the victim to an undisclosed hospital.

At 10pm Saturday, a twitter account attributed to the musician tweeted: “Survived a serious accident along Thika Road. Doctors running some tests but I am fine.”

Alice Bosibori who works at the surgical ward at the St. Francis Community Hospital in Kasarani says the singer is in a stable condition.

“Ken wa Maria is doing well. He was attended to by the surgeon who ordered for physiotherapy. He has a back problem as for now, but he is on with antibiotics and pain killers. His condition is very stable.

“His first session of physiotherapy was done today (Sunday, February 28), and if it can also be done tomorrow (Monday, February 29), then he would be discharged – however it solely depends on his response to physiotherapy.”
