Hillary Clinton makes surprise appearance at Katy Perry event

Hillary Clinton made a surprise appearance at the 12th Annual UNICEF Snowflake Ball on Tuesday (November 29) in New York.

The former Secretary of State and U.S. presidential candidate presented pop-star Katy Perry with the Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award for her work as an UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.

“I cannot tell you how delighted I am to be here to help celebrate the recipient of this year’s Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award. Someone who just has the spirit and the energy and the compassion that Audrey Hepburn brought to her work,” said Clinton.

The pair formed a bond during the 2016 presidential election, with Perry campaigning for Clinton at several appearances.

The audience erupted as Clinton cited the singer’s music as motivation to never give up: “Someone who’s powerful voice and creative lyrics remind us, when you get knocked down to get back up.”

Clinton was projected by nearly every national public opinion poll as the heavy favorite to win the U.S. presidential election. Instead, Republican Donald Trump won, shocking many throughout the nation and prompting widespread protests since November 9.

Perry’s rumored boyfriend, Orlando Bloom, who is also an UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, also attended the event.

“The plight of the world’s children is ever growing in the climate that we live in today. And the work that UNICEF does really saves lives, it really saves the lives of women and children,” said Bloom.

Also honored at the ball was author and philanthropist Moll Anderson, who received the Spirit of Compassion Award.
