Its just a break for Kenyas top alternative group, Just A Band

Sorry Just A Band Fans, your favourite alternative electronic band is taking a break.

The world-famous group, which rose to prominence because of their Makmende viral video, made the heart-breaking announcement on Monday, through their website and social media handles.

“We’re typing at you today to announce that Just A Band is taking a break,” the announcement read in part.

The quirky DIY trio was quick to clarify that Just A Band was not quitting music all together – instead, they’ve hit the pause button so that they can work on their individual projects.

“Just to clarify, we’re not breaking up! We’re just taking some time away from our group to work on our individual projects for a while,” the band explained. “We feel that Just A Band will be stronger as a unit for us taking the time to explore these paths and become stronger as individuals.”

The three members, Blinky Bill, Dan Muli and Mbithi Masya, met when they were in college, and they have been collaborating since.

The multi-talented group has since recorded, produced and edited all their materials – from audio content, music videos to animations.

“…fortunately, the band has been super successful in one of its main goals since its inception: to open up opportunities for each of us in the collective to explore and express ourselves in all the manners and media and forms that we find compelling,” read the statement.

The ultra-successful trio has now met a fork in the road, and each of them is taking their own path.

Blinky Bill is launching a solo Album, Dan is working on an illustrated novel with Mbithi Masya focusing on his feature film.

The band thanked fans for supporting them through the years, encouraging fans to follow their individual projects.

Since 2008, the band has been attracting attention globally, featuring severally on CNN and other international outlets.
