List: Glitz and glam at the Kenya Fashion Awards 2015

Kenya Fashion Awards gala went down with great grandeur and style on Saturday evening at the Brookhouse International School in Karen, Nairobi.

Fashion icons, celebrities, media personalities and fashion lovers turned up in droves for the event dressed to invoke envy as they graced the red carpet in utmost elegance.

Fashion industry players showcased their unique creations on the runway to an excited and highly receptive audience.

Some of the displayed creations included dresses, bags, pants, men’s wear, African print outfits and much more.

Public figures present at the event included Sarah Hassan (Tanya), Lillian Muli, Pinky Ghellani and Elani’s Wambui among others.

Citizen TV’s Fashion Watch segment was aired live from Karen, with the fashion experts – Robert Burale, Carol Odero, Ian Mbugua and Annabel Onyango giving snippets and analysing red carpet fashion statements to detail.

Carol Odero, who won Media Personality of the Year 2015 title for the second time in a row, told Citizen Digital Kenyan fashion has grown tremendously and is dynamic – something she says is good for the industry.

“I am very grateful to win an accolade tonight. I work really hard, have been lucky and have met the right people – it has paid off in yet another year. I find the fashion industry inspiring. I expected a celebration of fabulous fashion in the gala – something which we were treated to.”

Odero urged designers to use such kinds of platforms to do business with the fashion savvy Kenyan market.

“I expect a lot of structure in the Kenyan fashion industry in the future – there’s going to be a business mindset, strategic application and the industry is going to be tapped as big business opportunity. My dream is to have Kenyan fashion stores listed in the stock exchange.”

According to Nawande, the winner of the Upcoming Plus-size model of the year 2015 title, Kenyan fashion has grown from the traditional slender and tall model standards to an industry which opens up to plus-size women; which is good for African women who are predominantly well-endowed.
