Famous Police officer Linda Okello has moved to the High Court seeking to quash Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet’s decision to reduce her rank from that of a corporal to a constable.

Ms Okello, who last year was caught up in media frenzy over her tight police uniform, moved to court on Thursday, February 25.

Ms Okello argues that she was not offered a fair trial as the Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic Headquarters –  who is also the complainant – was also the appointing authority of the presiding officer of the disciplinary proceeding, and therefore in charge of the outcome of the entire disciplinary proceedings.

The disciplinary action came after she was arrested on January 14, 2016 by Senior Superintendent Julius Wanjohi while on duty along Kiambu-Ruiru road and charged with the disciplinary offence of committing an act that amounts to corruption.

Following the disciplinary proceedings, the officer was demoted.

Ms Okello rose to fame in April 2014 after she was published on a local daily wearing a “tight miniskirt” while on official duty at the KCB Kenya national rally championship in Kiambu.

The picture sparked storm on a national scale. Former Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo consequently appeared before a parliamentary committee and gave assurance that no disciplinary action was going to be taken against Ms Okello.

In her court papers filed on Thursday, Ms Okello claimed that she was due for promotion in March owing to her hard work and dedication.

In the suit, Ms Okello has sued the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet, the National Police Service, the Traffic Commandant, assistant Inspector General Jacinta Kinyua and the Attorney General.
