‘Mwema’ singer Mercy Masika: I thought I was ugly

Gospel singer Mercy Masika has revealed that in the past she didn’t feel beautiful.

Despite her indubitable beauty, the Mwema star says “the more she loves God, is the more she embraces herself”.

The chocolate-skinned beauty recently took to Instagram to share her past insecurities with fans.

“For a long time I thought I was ugly. Wasn’t that devil a liar? But the more I love God the more beautiful I feel about myself. God defines me. Halleluyah,” wrote Mercy.

Instagram users immediately took to her timeline to affirm to her just how beautiful she is.

Gospel singer Lady Bee said: “Alishindwa 2000 years ago na uwongo zake…You are so beautiful siz (He [the devil] was defeated 2000 years ago. His lies too did not work. You are so beautiful sister [Mercy Masika]).  (Sic)”

Lee found Mercy’s confession improbable: “Now that’s very hard to believe. Especially with that voice you can get away with anything but you used it for the right reason.”

Sarah Waridi expressed her admiration for Mercy Masika: “Wow that is my hero…well said Mercy – I wish you knew how I admire and how much you inspire me. Mmh God knows that…I wish to be like you one day to love and inspire people as you do dear…. you are my best artist ever…. May God bless you!”

Janet Kioko said, just like Mercy, she too fought insecurities in the past: “Me too I always thought myself as an ugly person, only to realise that that was the devil’s lie and the more I spent time with God the more I saw my beauty and I embraced myself. God is good.”
