President Uhuru Kenyatta led Kenyans in marking the 52nd Jamhuri Day celebrations which was held at the Nyayo National Stadium, Nairobi.
In their hundreds, Kenyans braved the scorching sun and made their way to the stadium dressed in colourful attire as some turned up with Kenyan national flags that they waved proudly.
Well-orchestrated music was played by Kenya’s security forces band; with the navy leading the camp.
2015’s Jamhuri celebration is the sixth under the current constitution adopted in 2010.
In his speech, President Kenyatta said his government will protect Kenyans and strive to defeat terrorism.
“Alive in our minds and hearts is the brutal mass murder of young Kenyans by terrorists at Garissa University College in April. We remember in our prayers the victims and their families. Let the deaths of these young people strengthen our resolve to deal as a united nation, with those who threaten to divide us,” said Kenyatta.
This year’s Jamhuri celebration is the 3rd to be officiated by President Kenyatta.
