Ray C: I rather date a mkokoteni man

Veteran Tanzanian artiste Ray C has said she would sooner date a mkokoteni man than a celebrity.

Speaking recently on East Africa Television’s ENewz programme, Ray C said she has been single since she broke up with her musician ex-boyfriend, Issack ‘Lord Eyes’ Waziri.

Ray C says she lost control after Lord Eyes broke her heart leaving her to find solace in drugs – a practice that only left her bankrupt and confused.

“Currently, I don’t have a boyfriend; I just have friends. Lord Eyes hurt me deeply. I loved him so much and that is why I did all he asked of me. I did not foresee being in the situation I currently am in. I wanted to please him; I wanted to make him feel we were together in everything,” she said.

After that painful experience, she decided that she will keep off relationships with celebrities.

“…for now, celebrities and I won’t cook in the same pot. I would rather date a mkokoteni man who loves me dearly. When I love, I do so wholeheartedly – that explains why most of my compositions are love songs,” said Ray C.

Ray C and Lord Eyes composed and even released a song together in April last year. The pair which has since broken up recorded the song under Kenya’s Mandugu Digital stable.

In 2014, Ray C expressed her desire to help Lord Eyes ditch his addiction to drugs. She even advised him to subscribe to methadone treatment.
