#RIP Celebs weve lost in 2015

As the year comes to an end, there are many things that we have to celebrate, but even as we look at the highs we realise that there are also some lows.

In 2015 we witnessed a several celebrity deaths, with the most recent being the passing of former Makadara MP Dick Wathika.

Here are some of the notable people that we lost during the year:

Dick Wathika

Former Nairobi Mayor Dick Wathika was a one-time MP for Makadara Constituency, passed away on Saturday, December 19.

Wathika died while being rushed to hospital for treatment.

Fellow political leaders mourned his passing, and some took to social media to share their condolence messages.

Former Nairobi Mayor Dick Wathika will be laid to rest Saturday at Gikondi village in Mukurweini, Nyeri County.

Ahmed Darwesh

Veteran journalist and celebrated news anchor, Ahmed Darwesh who was an enduring face on Kenya Television Network’s (KTN) Swahili bulletin, passed away on Monday, December 14 2015.

Darwesh, who worked at Kenya Television Network (KTN) for many years, was responsible for mentoring many of the top names in the Kenyan media industry.

Following the news of his sudden demise, the Kenyan media fraternity was hit hard and took to social media to celebrate him. Many described as kind and humble.

Popular Dancehall star J Capri, born Phillips Jordan, passed away early Friday morning while undergoing treatment at The University Hospital of the West Indies in Jamaica, according to Jamaica’s Urban Islandz.

The 23-year-old had been in an induced coma for some time after her Mercedes Benz slammed into a wall and overturned on Barbican Road.

News of the artiste’s death hit fans and the entertainment fraternity hard, especially because earlier reports indicated that doctors believed she had great potential of full recovery.

However on 9th December her father came out to say that the singer did not succumb to accident injuries; but to bacterial infection contracted at the hospital she was admitted at.

“There are some speculations that she had a lung infection so we are trying to get the full details on that,” Kenneth Philips told Jamaica’s Urban Islandz.

DJ Pinye’s brother

Legendary Kenyan disc spinner Peter Chuani, better known DJ Pinye, lost his older brother on 3rd December.

Pinye’s brother was found dead at his house in Uganda. However the cause of death was not confirmed.

Bobby Kristina

Bobbi Kristina Brown, the only child of late singer Whitney Houston, died on at the age of 22, six months after suffering irreversible brain damage in an drug related incident at her suburban Atlanta home.

Brown, whose father is R&B singer Bobby Brown, was found face down and unresponsive in a bathtub in her home by her partner and a friend on Jan. 31.

Her family moved her to hospice care on June 24.

Her death came three years after her Grammy-winning mother, who had battled substance abuse, drowned in a bathtub in a Beverly Hills hotel at age 48.

Authorities said cocaine abuse and heart disease contributed to Houston’s Feb. 11, 2012 death.

However, many controversies have surrounded her death including her lover Nick Gordon being accused of beating her and injecting her with toxic mixture.

Fidel Odinga

Fidel Odinga passed on January 4th 2014 at his Bel Air Country Homes residence, only hours after coming back from a night out in Westlands.

He had been driven home at about 4am by a Smart Fellas taxi driver in his Range Rover Autobiography, Registration Number KCA 026V.

Shortly after arriving at his house, his wife, Lwam Gatachaw Bekele, who was nursing their baby, was woken up by a commotion.

When she checked in on her husband, she found Fidel in distress. Lwam then called her parents-in-law, Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and his wife Ida. The two left their Kerarapon home and rushed to the residence and rushed to be with Fidel.

A doctor was called to attend to the ailing Fidel, but he passed away before being transferred to hospital.

Size 8 mum

MOTHER

Just one day after receiving good news of the birth of her granddaughter, Ladasha Belle, the mother of popular gospel singer Linet Munyali, better known Size 8, passed on.

Esther Njeri Munyali succumbed to kidney-related complications.

Size 8 took to her official Instagram page Friday to break the sad news.

Mrs. Munyali had been battling kidney failure for the past four years.

In May 2015, Size 8 opened up to the public about her mum’s health. She disclosed she (mum) needed to be flown to India urgently for a kidney operation.

A fundraiser was later held at the Nairobi Pentecostal Church (NPC) Valley Road where friends and fans turned up in numbers to raise the Ksh2.5 million that was needed for Mrs. Munyali’s surgery.

She was flown to India for the operation; which was successful, and later returned to the country where she had since been taking her medication.

Mzee Ojwang

Veteran Vitimbi actor, Mzee Ojwang, passed away on 12th July while undergoing treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital.

According to reports, Mzee Ojwang succumbed to pneumonia while undergoing treatment at Kenya’s leading public referral hospital.

The celebrated comedian was first admitted at the Loresho Hospital in mid-March after a prolonged eye ailment.

It was also a low moment for award-winning video producer J Blessing and singer wife Chantelle after they lost their 6-month-old son, Kyle.

Baby Kyle passed away on July 30th at the Aga Khan University Hospital where he had been admitted earlier in the week.

Naona bado singer Sudi’s wife

Naona Bado hit singer Sudi lost his wife, Salma Lutevezi on 10th August. Sudi revealed that his wife of five years passed on after a short illness.

Salma had been suffering a bad case of pneumonia and she passed away while she was receiving treatment at Coast General Hospital.

A heartbroken Sudi recalled how his wife had stood with him as he made his name in the music industry, and he praised Salma for being his motivation.
