Singer R Kelly pulls a Moses Kuria on presenter over sex abuse allegations

It seems storming out of interviews when tough questions are asked is not a move reserved for politicians.

Famed R & B singer R Kelly walked out of a Huffington Post Live interview with host Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani when questions about his sex abuse allegations were asked.

The 48-year-old crooner had gone on the show to promote is 13th studio album, The Buffet, when Tehrani asked about numerous claims that he had sexual relations with underage girls.

In 2008 the Ignition singer was put on trial for 21 counts of child pornography, with many of the victims being under 16-years-old.

Commenting on the sexual content of his lyrics, Tehrani attempted to ask Kelly whether the sex abuse controversy was affecting the sales of his latest album.

Realising where the line of questioning was going, Kelly snapped saying, “When you start getting negativity coming at you, you pretty much don’t wanna hear that crap. Especially if it was, what, I don’t know how many years ago!”

Persistent, the Huffington Post Live host reframed the question and this served to anger a visibly agitated Kelly, prompting him to threaten to walk out of the interview.

“If the next question is something negative out of your mouth, with all due respect, that’s exactly what I’m going to do (walking out),”threatened the I believe I Can Fly singer.

Kelly, who has in the past refused to answer questions about the sex abuse and rape allegations made against him, accused the show host of asking ‘negative questions’.

“I know the difference between a negative question and a positive one. So If I think it negative, I am going to walk-with all due respect to all of you. I know this is your job,” spat an incensed Kelly.

When Tehrani pressed further, Kelly stated that he didn’t appear on the show to be grilled: “I did not come here to get interrogated. I didn’t come here for a deposition.”

Tehrani did not relent.

As the exchange heated up, R Kelly went off on a rant saying: “This is a deposition. This is not about R Kelly. This is not about music. This is not about someone who works hard on his music who has an album out. This is about interrogating me; it is about disrespect.”

Trying to change the course of the interview, Tehrani announced that she was going to play a video question from one of the singer’s fans.

At this juncture, a livid Kelly rose from his seat and began to take off the lapel microphone.

Attempting to squeeze one more response out of Kelly, Tehrani asked what the award-winning singer had to say to fans who were concerned about the sexual abuse allegations.

To this, Kelly said that he loved all people, even those who had negative things to say about him, adding that he loved her as well.

“You don’t need to give me any of your love,” quipped the sharp-tongued host.

Kelly has faced many child sex abuse allegations since the 90’s, but he has maintained that he is innocent, despite having settled out of court with several families.

When the singer was 27, he illegally married fellow R &B singer Aaliyah when she was just 15-years-old.
