Tennis player Serena Williams responds to her body’s ‘haters’
World’s top female tennis player Serena Williams has finally given her opinion on the nasty trolls which have spouted hateful criticism about her body.
Despite 2015 being an incredible year to the tennis player, she has not been able to escape the haters’ racist, sexist and body-shaming messages.
Even when she won Wimbledon, her appearance was heavily criticised by trolls, with Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling wading in to the 33-year-old’s defence.
Serena told Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts on August 31st that she “has learnt to embrace, appreciate her physique.”
“I’ve been like this my whole life, and I embrace me and I love how I look. I love that I am a full woman, and I’m strong and I’m powerful and I’m beautiful at the same time. And there’s nothing wrong with that.”
She added: “I just don’t have time to be brought down. I have too many things to do, you know. I have Grand Slams to win. I have people to inspire. And that’s what I’m here for.”
Williams, who is now in the second round of the U.S. Open, is focused on being the first woman to win a calendar Grand Slam since German former World No. 1 Steffi Graf in 1988.
The 33-year-old Serena Williams is rumoured to be dating rapper Drake after photos of the pair surfaced online July.
