Two years on, Kenyans remember the late Kaberere

Two years after feted gospel singer Kaberere died in a freak accident, friends have come together to create a heavenly remix of his hit song Just a Way.

The young father of two was electrocuted at his Nairobi car wash on April 6th 2014, an incident that shook the Kenyan gospel fraternity – an industry that he had dedicated his life to.

Celebrities and members of Kenya’s vibrant gospel industry showed up in large numbers to raise money for his sendoff, also turning up to coordinate his sendoff.

Emotions ran high as Kaberere’s wife, Njeri, who was nine months pregnant with their baby girl, bade a tearful farewell to her husband at Langata Cemetery.

Later in the day, she would deliver their second born, Halia Njoki.

Njeri, better known as Njesh wa Kabbz by friends, has often posted touching messages on social media, reminiscing on the memorable moments she had with Kaberere.

“Last year a day like today you were laid to rest…we miss everything about you and the gap grows bigger each day but God is faithful to the end…our kids this day each celebrate either a birthday or a month old…#RememberingQabbz #Tutaonana,” she posted on the first anniversary of his passing.

A year later, Kaberere’s friends have come together to reproduce one of his most popular tracks, blending their video with snippets from the official Just a Way music video.

Just hours after song was uploaded, it surpassed the 1000 views mark, with many thanking Gittx, Bire and Israel for breathing fresh life into Kaberere’s song.  This prompted many more to remember the gospel icon.
