Vitimbi actress Nyasuguta: Why I bleached my body

Popular Vitimbi actress Eunice Wambui better known by the pseudonym, Nyasuguta, has revealed why she bleached her face.

Speaking to Citizen Television’s power duo Lulu Hassan and Kanze Dena Friday night, Nyasuguta said an accident she was involved in dented parts of her face, consequently making her visage appear to have more than one skin colour.

It is the uneven complexion on her face which prompted her to bleach.

“I know most people who watched me acting in Vitimbi back then see the difference between the then and current Nyasuguta – it’s because I bleached,” she intimated.

Wait a bit. How did it happen?

“I was involved in an accident in 2013. I got dented on the face. The dent was lighter than other parts of my face, consequently making me look like a person who has two facial complexions in one,” narrated the film beauty.

“I saw it wise to bleach so that my face gets an even skin tone. Actually it is my mum who encouraged me,” she added, before posing: “Imagine a celebrity walking in the streets of Nairobi with dents all over her face; what will people think of her?”

Nyasuguta says she is not sure if given the chance, she’d want to get her ‘darker’ version back.

“At that time I was very desperate,” told Eunice.

She wasn’t confident she’d play ‘Nyasuguta’ role well

Eunice says despite venturing into acting at a tender age, she did not know one day she’ll play a role in a popular TV show which required her to bring out an accent of a Kenyan ethnic group.

“It (Talent) is a gift from God. I did not know I could get into character which requires accent and deliver. It is Mama Kayai, who told me: ‘Eunice, we want you to play the role of a Kisii woman named Nyasuguta and make sure you bring it out perfectly,” recounted the artist.

How did she manage to successfully play the role?

“Mogaka assisted me in learning and mastering Kisii accent – he had experience in it. He taught me, patiently, and now see how good I am,” stated the film queen.

Nyasuguta has acted in other renowned local drama shows; but the most notable one is Citizen Television’s Tahidi High, where she played the role of a head girl.

Eunice divulged besides acting, she has another side hustle.

“I am a recruiter; I link and facilitate the traveling of youth who are willing to fly abroad to seek employment. I have connected quite a number of them with employers in Dubai, and also local companies.”

Vitimbi is a local comedy drama which pioneered in the 80’s, and aired on national broadcaster, Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) before recently shifting to Maisha Magic channel.

Eunice acted in the programme as the wife of Mogaka – a naïve man from Kisii land who’d shifted base to the city.

Notable actors in the show include late veteran actor Benson Wanjau (Mzee Ojwang’), Mary Khavere (Mama Kayai), Francis Njenga (Mogaka) among others.
