Why DJ Soxxy dined in the middle of a busy Nairobi street

Motorists using the busy Arwings Kodhek Road in Nairobi’s Hurlingham area were on Monday afternoon treated to a rather unfamiliar sight when popular TV host and gospel DJ Soxxy with his close friend, Ajay Leon, dined in the middle of the road.

Complete with a dining table and chairs, the gentlemen enjoyed a hearty meal of beef stew, vegetables and rice.

DJ Soxxy’s action was part of the Hunger Free Campaign that seeks to celebrate your favourite food with your favourite people.

The meal can be home-cooked or at a restaurant.

One can then donate the cost of his meal to help end hunger on World Food Day which will take place on October 16th.

DJ Soxxy told The Star that the campaign aims to “cultivate a culture of being selfless and encourage people to do something extra to help others.”

The TV host also divulged that motorists were surprised to see the two eating a complete meal in the middle of the road.

He, however, added that they (motorists) were excited to learn about the initiative, and even offered to be part of the campaign; inclusive of matatu operators.

Besides Soxxy, the campaign run by World Vision has also engaged some influencers.

They include: blogger Mark Kaigwa, Classic 105’s Larry Asego, rugby star Collins Injera, a photography group called ‘One Touch Live’ and award winning social media activist Philip Ogola.

World Vision’s programmes officer told The Star, “Anyone can help drive the campaign message further in the circles they operate in by hosting a dinner party, or lunch at a restaurant with friends and family, taking pictures and posting on #HungerFree, then doubling up the cost of the dinner by paying the extra amount to paybill number 525630 and account number “Hunger Free”.
