Why Wema Sepetu caused drama at 2015 Nzumari Awards

Tanzanian beauty queen and actress Wema Isaac Sepetu on Friday, December 11 caused a stir at the 2015 Nzumari Awards which were held at Mombasa’s Azura Club.

Drama unfolded when the 2006 Miss Tanzania winner started shouting and demanding for her money (Ksh40, 000). Wema reportedly sensed fraud after the event planners asked for accommodation fees from artistes despite it (accommodation) being catered for by Mombasa County Government.

She learnt that Mombasa county executive for Sports, Culture and Gender, Mohamed Abbas, had fully catered for everything during her stay in Mombasa, but allegedly, Eve Queen (the award’s CEO) still asked her for accommodation money for her and the eight-person entourage.

Sources who were present when the drama unfolded say the accomplished actress hurled a slew of unprintable words at event organisers.

She claimed there were some underhanded deals going on as most winners had below 17 votes, adding that those numbers did not add up.

The management, on the other hand, reportedly failed to issue winners the cash awards which came with being a victor of a particular category.

The outspoken actress could not stomach that, and she stormed out in theatrical fashion.

Wema beat socialites Huddah Monroe, Zari Hassan, Vera Sidika and Corazon Kwamboka to bag Social Personality of the Year Award.

Nzumari Awards flop

The much hyped 2015 event turned out to be a big disappointment, say artists and fans.

The aggrieved parties blamed it all on the event organisers and particularly the CEO, Eve Queen.

According to well-placed sources, the awards organisers allegedly changed the ceremony’s venue (from Flamingo Beach Resort to Azura Club) in the last minute; consequently causing confusion among nominees and fans.

The nominees additionally complained of being asked to pay entrance fee for their dancers and other accompanying musicians.

The gala, that was scheduled to start at 7 pm, ended up starting at midnight without any form of entertainment to keep attendees occupied, say sources.

The Coastal Nzumari Awards has witnessed quite a flesh of controversies since its inception; with most Mombasa-based artists blaming it on the ceremony’s boss.

Some musicians have even offered to offer a helping hand in making the annual event better.

“If we wronged you Eve let us know, we are even willing to work with you so that we have a better event in the coming years, this is embarrassing!” said one of the artistes.
