4 things you didn’t know about single CBK Governor Nominee

When Dr Patrick Ngugi Njoroge was nominated by President Uhuru Kenyatta for the Central Bank of Kenya Governor’s post, many Kenyans did not know him.

This state of affairs quickly changed on Tuesday after he told the panel vetting his nomination that he was single by choice.  

The 54-year-old economist’s comment made it to radio and television broadcasts and soon after that, his marital status took the center stage in the nomination debate.

The plot thickened when women took to social media to ask for his hand in marriage.

Here are three things that people have been overlooked in the CBK Governor debate:

He has no assets in Kenya- When MPs quizzed Dr Njoroge about his investments, he told the vetting panel that he has does not have any assets in Kenya.

While some have questioned whether this means that he does not believe in the local economy, he has asserted it was a personal decision.

He attained his doctorate from Yale University- For many Kenyans, Ivy League schools like Yale and Harvard dream schools that they will never set foot in.

The case is however different for the CBK governor nominee as he graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Economics from Yale in 1993.

He is a University of Nairobi Graduate- Dr Njoroge attained both is undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of Nairobi from 1979 to 1985.

He attended Strathmore College prior to joining Nairobi University and he went to Mang’u High School.

He is based in Washington DC- The CBK governor nominee resides in Washington DC, and he has lived in the Unites States for most of his adult life.

He, however, told the nominating panel that he would be willing to relocate should he get the job.
