Halloween has become more commercialized than it was before.
According to the Business Insider, in the past, people would make food offerings for departed ancestors.
“Hallow refers to the saints celebrated on All Saints’ Day, which is November 1… and ‘een’ is a contraction of “eve” or evening before,” the Business Insider reports.
Halloween thus reportedly means the night before All Saints’ Day; this is a Christian event that celebrates the departed.
The National Retail Federation revealed that Halloween spending in the U.S. is projected to reach $8.8 billion (Ksh.908billion) this year.
Fans spend lots of money on costumes, candy and parties every October 31. Below are celebrities whose spooky costumes stood out on Thursday:

The costume was reportedly inspired by Cardi B’s character in the movie “Hustlers”.

This year, the family of David Burtka and Neil Patrick Harris emulated a walking portrait art museum.
Neil Patrick Harris was depicted as Vincent Van Gogh; David Burtka as Salvador Dali and their kids as self portraits of Frida Kahlo and Andy Warhol.
Kim Kardashian
Kim decided to go as Elle Woods from the movie “Legally Blonde”. She even recreated a scene from the film where the character’s send her their Harvard application videos.
Her hair was Elle Woods’s signature blonde tresses and she donned a tight pink slip, peach shades, a silver heart chain necklace and a rhinestoned black tote bag (complete with a tiny dog).
She also carried a fuzzy pink pen, the writing utensil of choice for Witherspoon’s character.
Ciara and Russell Wilson
Singer Ciara and husband Russell Wilson dressed up as Beyonce and Jay-Z from the “APES**T” music video.
And instead of the Mona Lisa portrait at the back, it was that of former US President Barack Obama and the wife Michelle.
