Dad checks out of hospital to surprise daughter at her wedding

A severely ill father decided to surprise his daughter by attending her wedding, which he previously thought he would not have been able to attend, a video posted to a social media website on June 9 showed.

In the video, Andre Pearson, who suffers from heart failure and is currently a patient at Mayo Clinic, was seen entering a house in the Californian city of Indio a day before his daughter’s wedding, to announce that he would be able to walk her down the aisle.

The video showed his daughter’s emotional reaction, after he made his way towards her in his wheelchair.

In another video posted to a social media website, Pearson was seen attending his daughter’s wedding on June 6 and enjoying a wedding dance from his wheelchair.

Pearson had initially decided not to attend the wedding due to his poor health, Mayo Clinic said in a statement. However, after starting to feel better a few days before the wedding, his care team decided he could take part in the event, accompanied by staff member from the clinic, the statement said.

When Pearson arrived at the clinic in March, he did not qualify for a heart transplant due to his poor health, the clinic said.

But after undergoing heart surgery, followed by ongoing dialysis and physical rehabilitation, the clinic said his health conditions improved, which will enable him to return home soon.
