How to get rid of bedbugs

Bedbugs may enter your house or office space through luggage, clothing, used beddings or sofa sets.

According to WebMD, their hiding places are mostly mattresses, box springs, bed frames, and headboards where they have easy access in and out.

The small, oval, brownish insects survive on blood from animals or human beings.

Experts say bedbugs can be a little difficult to spot but small, itchy bites on your body or blood stains on your sheets or pillow case may be a cause for concern.

To treat bedbugs, WebMD recommends:

  • Cleaning your bedding, linens, curtains and clothing in hot water
  • Stuffed animals, shoes and other items that cannot be washed should be placed in a dryer and run on high for 30 minutes
  • Using a stiff brush, scrub the mattress
  • Vacuum your bed and surrounding area. After vacuuming, empty the contents immediately and disinfect your cleaner.
  • Encase mattress and box springs with a tightly woven, zippered cover to keep bedbugs from entering or escaping
  • Repair cracks in plaster and glue down peeling wallpaper to get rid of places bedbugs can hide
  • Get rid of clutter around the bed
