Is Nairobi in Africa? Kenyans online respond to tourist at Giraffe Manor
A video of a tourist on a swing at the Giraffe Manor in Nairobi elicited sharp reactions on social media on Monday.
The woman is reportedly from San José, Costa Rica according to her Twitter page.
In the 35-second clip, she is seen feeding one of the giraffes as the song Lovely by Billie Eilish and Khalid plays in the background.
”Hello Twitter world, hope you all are having a nice day. This place: Nairobi, Africa,” her post reads.
Some of the Kenyans who responded to her tweet wondered which Nairobi the woman was in.
”Another Tweet to be reminded we are using the wrong Nairobi,” one Nyawira said, to which Sewe Saldanha replied: Again, which version of Nairobi is this?…do I need visa to visit this Nairobi?”
”I need to upgrade to this version!!” Kitonga Ngei quipped.
”Which governor are they using….sisi tunatumia Sonko,” Jacksy posed.
“Saying Nairobi, Africa is like saying London, Europe. Say Nairobi, Kenya like you would say London, UK,” Eric Mwangi added.
“Nairobi is the capital city of Kenya. Kenya is a country in Africa. Africa is a continent,” Moraa Mageto said.
The giraffe manor has attracted many top personalities including Ellen DeGeneres; a famous American TV show host, CNN’S Richard Quest, singer Mick Jagger, actress Brooke Shields and others.
The Giraffe Manor was one of Time Magazine’s greatest places to visit in 2018 with rates starting at $565 (Ksh.56,500) per person per night.
