Julia Roberts on why film isnt her top priority anymore

‘Pretty Woman’ actress Julia Roberts undergoes a significant transformation in her new movie ‘Secret in Their Eyes.’

She plays a police officer whose world is turned upside down when she arrives at a murder scene and discovers the victim is her daughter.

Speaking to Reuters, she described the story arc as “difficult, hugely difficult but really a great opportunity to show such a giant distance in the life of one person. I don’t think I’ve ever had a chance to cover so much time with one character.”

Roberts’ character Jess goes from an extroverted joker to becoming a withdrawn, pale shadow of herself. However, she said wearing frumpy clothes, next to no make up and lank hair didn’t mean she was overlooked on set.

“I’m not really an overlookable personality I don’t think.. I don’t think it’s about what I look like. I’m probably just the loudest,” she explained.

It also wasn’t an issue not looking her best and working with her husband Daniel Moder who was the cinematographer on the production. “I think with both of us it’s not about the superficial ‘being pretty or not’, it’s about what we’re really trying to accomplish and what’s the story we’re telling and you know, certainly he’s like ‘I’ll do my best but there’s only so much I have to work with right now,'” she said, laughing.

Despite the fact that the couple both work in the film industry, Roberts stated that her priorities in life have changed in recent years.

“Well I think that passion for film making doesn’t drive my life anymore, really but it is a great creative place that I appreciate, but I think more the idea of Danny and I being parents to these three small human beings, I think we’re passionate about that and keeping them strong and happy and forward moving. It’s a huge responsibility.”

‘Secret in Their Eyes,’ which is a remake by director Billy Ray of the Argentinian Academy Award winning film ‘El Secreto de Sus Ojos’ goes on release on November 20.
