Kenyans disappointed as Sauti Sol lose out on BET award

Kenyan band Sauti Sol lost out on the Best International Act Africa award in the 2015 BET awards held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The win went to Stonebwoy, a Ghanian dancehall artiste.

The ‘Nerea’ singers were nominated for the category alongside AKA of South Africa,  Stonebwoy of Ghana,  Sarkodie of Ghana, Fally Ipupa of Congo,  Wizkid of Nigeria, The Soil of South Africa and Yemi Alade of Nigeria.

Sauti Sol, who are hugely popular in Africa, were touted as most likely to win, but this was not to be.

Kenyans had taken to social media to congratulate the band for its nomination soon after the announcement with most celebrities expressing optimism that the award would ‘finally come east’.

Stonebwoy is a Ghanian dancehall artiste and this was his first ever nomination for the international award.
