Season 3 of Coke Studio is back bigger and better than ever and we have the inside scoop on two of Africa’s hottest artistes who are set to feature on the show. Maurice Kirya and Fid Q will be bringing their East African flavor to the show.

Maurice Kirya from Uganda is a sensational award-winning artiste whose style of music is “mwooyo” a Luganda word for soul.

Something you probably didn’t know is that he started out in hip hop before he found his footing in “mwooyo”.

Kirya has a devoted fan following both locally and internationally and not only is he a seasoned musician he also has talent on the big screen.

Maurice has a passion for food and even owns his own highly popular restaurant in Uganda called the “Sound Cup”. A lover of food and the arts, he is the ultimate ladies man.

Next on the list is Fid Q, a Tanzanian artiste who has brought Bongo flavor into the rap game.

He has an amazing way with Swahili rap and is bound to bring lots of attitude to this season of Coke Studio.


FID Q started music in 1990 and three albums later he is still going strong in the music industry.

The Tanzanian rapper is currently working on an album which will feature Sauti Sol on one of the singles, but Fid Q stated that the song is unfinished.

Fid Q revealed that it is a love song and he wants to share his love live through the track.

Getting into the juicy tidbits of the interview, Fid Q revealed that the audience should expect an explosion of incredible talent and good music from the duo.

Maurice promised that the mash ups, something never done before on Coke Studio, will be nothing short of amazing.

The fans will be an integral part of the show and there will be a lot of interaction with the artistes.

Maurice and Fid Q also revealed that their passion and love for music would translate into their performance.

Fid Q’s ferocious attitude coupled with Kirya’s talent will no doubt leave the audience wanting more.

Kirya revealed that he is currently working on a film titled “Queen of Katwe” alongside Oscar winning actress Lupita Ny’on’go which is being shot in Uganda and South Africa.

The two exuded a friendly charm throughout the chat session while revealing details about their lives.

When asked what he likes most about Nairobi, Kirya said he loves the fact that he can go out to the club without become recognized. Fid Q is a bit of a shut-in and prefers to stay indoors.

Aside from his other talents, Kirya revealed that he is quite imaginative and in future he would to like to venture out into invention.

He has a knack for drawing up sketches and he said he would love to give them to experts who can then bring his ideas to life.

This is guaranteed to be one of the hottest collaborations this season.
