Octopizzo mocks Khaligraph during album launch

Kibera’s hip-hop finest, Octopizzo Namba Nane on Saturday launched his second album, Long Distance Paper Chaser (LDPC) at KICC, Nairobi.

The rapper, who has for three years been inspirational and instrumental in nurturing young musical talents at the Kakuma refugee camp, invited upcoming artistes from the camp to perform.

The budding musicians who showcased their rap skills to a huge crowd for the first time included: Burundian Queen Lisa, Spider from Somalia, Young Courageous and Mr J among others.

The full album launch was attended by hundreds of fans who braved the cold and chilly Nairobi weather to witness Octopizzo’s great step in his musical career, confirming the day’s emcee’s words that: Hip-Hop fans never care about the weather, but care about the music.

Some fans came prepared with umbrellas just in case it rained.

Celebrities in the music industry turned up in their numbers to show their support of the hip-hop bigwig.

They included: DJ Joe Mfalme, DJ Stylez, DJ Sadiq, Sage Chemutai, H_art the band, comedians Owago Onyiro, Eric Omondi, Chipukeezy, Oga Obinna among others.

The American Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec also graced the event.

The MC for the day, Immanuel Nyakwada aka Point Blank Ivumbi said that Octopizzo’s second album is his (Octopizzo) ‘transition from musical kingdom to musical empire.’

He added that by launching the album, Namba Nane confirmed his status as the country’s ‘king of hip-hop’.

The Ivo Ivo hit maker did not disappoint; taking to the stage, he rolled out his elite rap skills which got the crowd singing along effortlessly.

Fans, who were comprised predominantly of young people, danced and cheered in support of the artiste.

The highlight of the day came when Octopizzo brought on stage his two daughters, introducing them lovingly to the admiring crowd.

The Kibera-born artiste’s beef with fellow rapper Khaligraph could be escalated further after he heeded to pressure from fans and rapped confrontational lyrics against the Kayole-based artist.

The lyrics were to the effect that Khaligraph is way below his (Octopizzo’s) musical success and rap ability.
