R. Kelly charged with bribery for fake ID to marry underage Aaliyah

R. Kelly has been charged with bribing an Illinois government employee to obtain fake identification documents so that he could marry an underage Jane Doe who is believed to be deceased singer Aaliyah in 1994.

According to Forbes, Robert Sylvester Kelly which is R Kelly’s real name, was 27 when he married Aaliyah who was 15 years.

The marriage certificate however which was reported by Vibe magazine then, showed Aaliyah to be 18.

R. Kelly is currently in custody in Chicago after he was denied bail in August for aggravated criminal sexual abuse in Chicago and New York.

He was arrested in July on charges of heading up an illegal organization that recruited fans and underage girls for illegal sexual activity.

His latest charges expand on this accusations.

Law enforcement has zeroed in on the musician after several women, family members of alleged victims and musicians spoke out in Surviving R Kelly, a six-part documentary aired in January.

Prosecutors in New York, Minnesota and Illinois moved to charge Kelly following the documentary.

Aaliyah’s first album, “Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number,”  which was produced and written by Kelly, was released in 1994 when she was 14.

The R&B singer died in a plane crash in 2001 at age 22.
