Russian couples celebrate Valentines Day in unique way

Six Russian couples were invited to be the first ones to kiss at “Dizzying kisses place” opened at the observation deck of Moscow’s Ostankinskaya TV tower at the height of 337 meters.

The couples, mostly from Moscow and the Moscow region, were winners of “Dizzying date” social networks contest in which they had to send their photographs and tell their love stories.

“On the 13th (of February) we kissed for the first time and we associate it with this holiday (Valentine’s Day). It is our day – the 13th, our number,” said Irina standing next to her husband Alexei.

“I am a fan of all kind of contests, I am a very active person and often take part in various events. Last year we also marked Valentine’s Day in an unusual way. It is our fifth anniversary, it is the fifth time we mark Valentine’s Day together and we are very happy and excited,” said Susanna hugging her boyfriend Alexander.

The six couples invited to the TV tower on the eve of Valentine’s Day had a rare opportunity to be the first ones to kiss at a special “Dizzying Kisses Spot” opened at an observation deck.

After kissing, telling their love stories and taking selfies, lovers went to the open air to release heart-shaped red balloons.

Valentine’s Day was not marked in the Soviet Union and came to Russia in the early 1990s. Despite the fact that it is a relatively new holiday and not a public holiday, Valentine’s Day is widely celebrated across the country and is considered the most popular romantic holiday, overshadowing Soviet-era International Women’s Day marked on March 8th.
