This is what happens when you use apple cider vinegar as a toner

I have heard the saying beauty is only skin deep many times, and ladies, when all is well during the month it does feel good to have clear skin, especially on the face.

It all started when I was an innocent 13-year-old in primary school, and the only facial application I knew was what most of our mothers used on our faces and even bodies, Vaseline.

But then time changes and so do our bodies and there comes what I call the danger age, the teen age, when all the changes that happen in our bodies reflect on the skin, especially the face.

In my case, what was once a silky dark and soft skin turned into a collection of breakouts and pimples.

Growing up with two older sisters, my acne-filled face was always their tool of attack during the usual sister fights, and that’s when I started obsessing over having clean and clear skin.

Initially I was married to the three-step face cleaning routine, as outlined in the book of ‘How to Get Clear and Beautiful Skin,’ cleansing, toning and moisturising.

But what this book doesn’t tell you is what specific product will work for you. So for years I was left experimenting on the different facial products in the market, and ending up with one complaint after another.

The first three-set facial cleaning products I used gave me patches on my face, my nose was lighter than the other parts of the face, the next one was too harsh on my skin and it gave me black heads, the next product darkened my already dark skin, and this went on for about six or seven different products I tried. Then I started asking around.

So much has been tried and said about beauty and cosmetic products, and the advertisements and billboard pictures have made us believe we can achieve as much if we used certain products. In my quest to get my ideal product I remember once asking a former Miss Kenya what she uses on her beautifully toned and moisturised face.

She told me she doesn’t drink milk or any dairy product, and also she mentioned not washing her face with perfumed soap.

I tried out her beauty secret and it worked for me. I stopped washing my face with perfumed soap and I immediately began seeing results, especially with the breakages and pimples.

Then I realised it is not always about the chemically tested and made products, at times going organic is the solution to most of our problems, I mean even for food, if you have read much about eating a diet of real whole food, then you know that Pizza and French fries are not the best.

I discovered my ultimate face weapon, apple cider vinegar, which is used as a toner for my face.

As the old adage goes an apple a day keeps the doctor away, apple cider vinegar is a purely organic product made of fermented apples.

Because our skin’s delicate PH can be disrupted by many factors including stress, our diet, lack of exercise or not drinking enough water, research shows that a natural acidic toner like the apple cider vinegar is beneficial for balancing the skin’s PH.

It is also good for freshening and removing excess oils and make up from the face.

Apple Cider Vinegar is also an antiseptic and antibacterial, which is an added bonus when dealing with skin infections and conditions like acne and eczema.

And best of all it does not contain chemical additives like alcohol that can work against your skin.

How to use it

Research has shown that for best results mix a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with four tablespoons of water and apply using cotton wool twice a day, preferably in the morning and at night before applying your best suited moisturizer.

Note: Do a patch test on your skin to see how it works best for you. Over time if you feel the apple cider solution is weak, you can increase your application to two tablespoons of ACV against four tablespoons of water. Water has to be more than the ACV always.

So will you try out the Apple Cider Vinegar Toner? Well give it a three-month trial and let me know how it works for you.
