Trevor Noah to replace Jon Stewart on The Daily Show

The 31-year-old made his debut as a contributor to the nightly satirical show last December with his first appearance taking aim at racial tensions in the US.

“I never though I’d be more afraid of police in American than in South Africa,” the comedian had said.

Stewart, who has hosted the show for 16 years, announced he would step down in January though he is yet to set a timetable for his departure.

Speaking from Dubai where he is on tour, Trevor expressed disbelief at his appointment saying, “you don’t believe it for the first few hours. You need a stiff drink and then unfortunately you’re in a place where you can’t really get alcohol.”

Under Steward’s guidance, The Daily Show has reportedly become one of the most important political programmes on US television, a position that Trevor will have to either to maintain or better.
