Wet weather fashion: The famous trench coat

Sunday morning when I woke up it was raining heavily, the kind of rain that makes you feel like going back to bed and sleeping the day away.

Sadly, duty calls and I had to report to work in the afternoon. I still have my reservations about what to wear during this weather, especially because I am keen not to appear overdressed or underdressed.

As soon as I saw the rains I was sure I would be dressed in a sweater top and jeans for the day, Sundays are always dress down days for me. You can never catch me in high heels on a Sunday!

But before I left the house, the sun had emerged from under the cloud it was hiding in all its might! Suddenly all evidence of a chilly morning was gone, and I was left wearing a sweater top and jeans in sweltering heat.

It is important to note that the sun shines even during the rainy season. So what can you wear that will transition well from rain to shine?

One item you must have this rainy season is the ‘famous trench coat.’

I call it the famous trench coat because it is that one coat that has a dark colour and can suit almost all your outfits.

Trench coats will never go out of style and are every woman’s must have.

Whether double-breasted or button less, classic beige or brightly coloured, waterproof or not, the trench coat is always welcome in wet and cold weather.

However, wearing a trench coat can get boring so you need to add a little spice to your look when stepping out; try wearing your coat differently every time.

The key to master the trench coat look is by picking the perfect layer of clothes beneath it.

Ensure you wear something light underneath incase the sun shines.

Here are a few styling tips on how to wear the trench coat:

The fit is crucial, make sure the shoulders are not too wide, and the sleeves are not too long.

1. If you’re wearing a cute dress and want to show it off, make sure to wear a trench coat that can reveal a part of your dress either at the top or the bottom of the trench, that way you accessorise it well

2. A great way to wear a statement trench coat is to let it be the main focus of your outfit, just wear it over a little black dress, buckle it up to the top, and make sure to wear statement boots to finish off your look.

3. Trench coats don’t only come in that basic beige color, don’t be afraid to try out a new color such as red, navy blue and black

4. Trench coats can work for evenings too; just pair it with a lace dress and a pair of heels. However, make sure the trench coat’s fabric looks sophisticated so you can pull off the look perfectly.

5. If you’re heading out on a rainy day, it’s best to wear your trench coat with leather leggings and a pair of riding boots.

I wear my trench with either leggings or cute office dresses. Honestly it could pass in whatever weather because whether its cold or hot I still rock it in class and style.
