1 dead, 4 injured after being struck by lightning

A student lost his life and four others were injured at a school in Homa Bay County after being struck by lightning under a tree where they were studying.

The four students from St Mary’s Magina Secondary school in Ndhiwa constituency were rushed to hospital after the Friday evening incident that left other students shaken.

School Principal Cecilia Okello says the injured students were admitted at Avenue hospital in Kisumu and are recuperating well.

Candidates from the school taking their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams have however not been affected, as heavy rains started to pound the area.
